Snorkeling

Royal Hawaiian Diamond Head Snorkeling Sailboat Ride Helena's

Bill loves to snorkel and Doug knows just the place to go: Hanauma Bay.  But first we need to stop at Snorkel Bob's.

Good old Snorkel Bob rents gear for the day or for the week.  We got a one-day deal, and Bill was totally amazed that with a quick long-distance call to his opthamologist, he could get goggles that were as good as his eyeglasses!

Now on to Hanauma Bay.  First we buy a ticket, and then we watch a movie that educates us on the importance of not touching the fish and not stepping on the coral.  There were no warnings to be careful not to drown.  I guess they have their priorities.

And then we walk down, down, down to the beach.  Luckily, later we can ride a tram for the up, up, up part.  (They charge 75 cents to ride down, but a dollar to ride up.  What a rip-off.)

Just look at all the snorkelers in the coral down there.

I think Bonnie has found the perfect spot to lie in the sand while the boys play in the water.

Doesn't Bill look snazzy in his Snorkel Bob outfit?

The water temperature is just perfect.

And the tourists come in all shapes and sizes, which was a relief to Bill.

I mean, just look.

This guy doesn't seem out of place at all.  Now let's see if he can find any tropical fish.

Yep.  According Bill's handy dandy Snorkel Bob guide to tropical fish, this is a ... um ... this one's not on Snorkle Bob's guide.  But Bill found another guide on the internet that says it's a Convict Tang.  Probably.

And these are ... not on Snorkel Bob's card either.  So a quick look at the internet says they're  two Sailfin Tang.  Yeah, that's it.

And this is an ... um ... c'mon Snorkel Bob; haven't you ever been to Hanauma Bay?  You don't have any of these fish on your card.  But careful research in the internet says this is a Blonde Naso Tang.  Yeah, I knew that was what it was.

More Sailfin Tangs and their friend the mystery fish.

Don't step on the sea anemone!

Bill has got to be the coolest looking snorkler on the beach.
