That's where we stayed -- the hotel in that picture up there. The Universal Helios Grand Hotel. It was just as grand and opulent as it looks.
Bill drove from Memphis to Nashville on Thursday morning; he and Lily picked up the boys at their schools in the afternoon; they all drove to the airport; and at 6:05 PM, right on time, Southwest Airlines took them to Orlando. This was not Rocky's first flight, but seasoned traveler that he was, he still was excited to sit by the window. It may have been dark outside, but for Rocky that just added to the wonder. He never expected to see so many ball parks lit up down there.
We made it! So here we are, Bill, Joe, Lily and Rocky, standing outside the Helios Grand Hotel, our home for the next three nights. A light show at the park over there was in progress, and believe it or not while we were looking at the lights in the park, a lady tapped me on the shoulder and said sir, do you know what that could be over there? Well, up there in the sky was an orange dot that looked too big and bright to be Mars or Jupiter, but I didn’t know what might cause a bright spot to be in the sky...in Florida...looking east...toward Cape Canaveral...duh. Fortunately, Google came to the rescue and I found there had been a Blue Origin rocket launch just as we had stepped out onto the patio.
This was just the perfect welcome for us.
The light show looked beautiful that first night, but when we viewed it from the edge of the lake over by the carousel Saturday night, it really blew us away.
All that flying made us hungry.
Bill and Joe had gelato, while rocky had a berry tart. Yum.
Rocky's first stop was the gift shop where he found just the most stylish hat he could imagine. No, Rocky, you can't have the hat. Well, not tonight, anyway.
