Pisa

Here's Claudia enjoying an Italian sandwich.  They called them "panini."  Claudia didn't care much for the chewy bread, so she's eating it al fresco.

There it is in the distance.  The Leaning Tower of Pisa.

It really did lean.  Looked like it was about to topple any minute, in fact.  I warned everybody to stand back.  I yelled, "Timberrrrrr."  But nothing happened.

See what I mean?  One of these days -- kee-rash.

Another pretty church. There are lots in Italy.

The tourists are leaning too.  A little, anyway.

Sid noticed that even though the tower leans, the top seems level.  That's because the thing started to lean as it was being constructed.  So the engineers compensated, and that's why the Leaning Tower of Pisa is shaped like a banana.  I am not making this up.

A very pretty banana.

In fact, the entire complex is just stunning.

Looks simple and dignified, doesn't it?  But behind me was a Galleria of souvenir stands.  And they were very tacky.

Our hotel in Pisa.
