First Mate's Note:
Got only one picture today. Seems Shelley would rather take
a bath than email photos. Here it is with a caption,
followed by today's email exchanges. Nice pic, don't
you think?

Admiral's Log, August 13
Sunrise every day, but
each sunrise is different. This one is from Fort Pierce,
FL, taken on our last full day at the Riverside Marina. We
have traveled over 200 miles today since this sunrise.
(Photo #138).
Tomorrow will be our last
sunrise in FL. Next one will be GA.

Good morning, sunshines...to
quote Robin Meade from CNN Headline News!
We pushed on from
Titusville, after gassing up (choke, chock...800 dollars)
and attempted to set anchor around 8pm, but bottom was too
soft and so on we paddled. Now our challenge was either
finding another spot or attempt to locate a pier that would
hold a boat this size and weight.
No luck and so we
continued to SLOWLY paddle along in the dark until we
reached New Smyrna Beach. Finally at 10pm we were able to
dock. VERY eerie driving at night for a variety of reasons
and not the safest thing to do...but we had little choice
and so carefully continued. Total distance covered was 120
hours, 13 hour day.
I must say, however,
that as you paddle into dusk and into dark, each moment is
more breath-taking than the last. Mother Nature shows
herself in ways that one could not even imagine!
We were back up and
back off for the day before sunrise. And, thus, as the sun
rose, I did snap a picture and said 'Good Morning, Sunshine'

Oops...we did not go
120 hours, but MILES...but the time seemed endless between 8
and 10pm. Where were Michael's night vision goggles when you
needed them?!
Around 9pm, we went
through narrow channel called 'Mosquito Lagoon'. Could not
get through THAT fast enough...which, unfortunately we did
NOT. YIKES...and SWAT.
Sorry, Bill, no
pictures of the night drive. Again, shall have to leavw to
your imaginations. Think bug bites, welts, sun kissed faces,
aching bodies... But smiles on faces and sleeping like logs
until first light!

I just read something
about DOD sponsoring research that shows that chlorophyll
drops in the eyes seem to improve night vision. This was
first discovered in deep sea-dwelling fish, believe it or
not. So, if you can find the drops you can go 24 hours a
day and should arrive home by Christmas.

Great fishing in M
lagoon!
Are you to St Augustine
yet? Will you go by fort, perhaps get fired on by Spanish
cannon?

Have successfully
passed 'the fort' at St. Augustine....and I got 'shot'
(camera that is) before we were noticed and shot upon!
Probably had folks wondering what that long skinny thing
floating by was..certainly .not a barge cause too colorful!
What DID take shots at
us this afternoon were lightning bolts and rain pellets. As
Admiral, I immediately took shelter on the lower deck to
leave the two Captains - Rob and Michael - to fight us
through this peril. Being smart Captains, they quickly
followed the Admiral to the lower bridge where we could
remain dry and continue paddlin' on. We won that battle win
Mother Nature! Rain has moved off and is behind us.
At this moment we are
about 1-hour south of Fernandina Beach Area. We expect to
'hunker' down at the Amelia Island Marina...gas up before
settling down for the evening. Total distance for the day
shall be 124 miles in 12 hours.
According to what I
read about this marina, I SHOULD be ablle to have some wi-fi.
If so, then expect to download BOAT loads of email...and
see what I might be able to do as far as writing up short
log and uploading so pics to send to Bill or boat blog.
Fraid if I leave Bill to his own devices, the Admiral's Log
shall be full of pirates, margaritas, and mermaid tales!
We should pass over
from Florida to Georgia shortly after departuring in the
morning. Depending on our departure time, we may be
'crossing' over state marker at or right after sunrise.

Sigh…since coming into
the charming “Amelia Island Yacht Harbor,” attention has
been given to prepping the boat for tomorrow. Pumping gas
began around 6:45pm and only now has it finished
pumping…don’t ask…nope no pictures! Double sigh…I want a
shower and some grub to eat.
I took pictures
throughout the day and now must download to computer and
then label, etc. Not sure how much stuff I have left in me
for all that. HOWEVER, to ‘keep you satisfied,”….let me
toss at least one out at this moment and attach a caption.
