First Mate's Note:  I've received no pictures over the past few days.  Shelley and Mike have been busy, and tonight they're docked where they don't have internet access.  But some of Shelley's descriptions are almost as good as photos ... almost as good as movies.  Just look:

Sigh…could not sleep and finally got back up at 3:15 am to do some work.  Captain Rob is due shortly and we hope to get back on the water and on our way later this morning.  We were all set to go by Monday afternoon…except we had no ‘official’ Captain onboard.  He remained in St Pete conducting business.  He has advised us when we spoke with him on Monday evening that his ‘real’ job is now picking up and so he will have to be off the boat no later than Aug 20.  This is somewhat troublesome since the trip is expected to take about 12-14 days..and with 1000 miles to go at approx 100 miles a day…YIKES…it will be all-hands on deck and the old Admiral will have to become a more serious deck hand and sailor over the coming days!  Joyce and Jim have agreed to my extension to remain onboard to DC.

Michael and I tried to take the boat from the dock and back in, yesterday…it was UGLY!  It is like driving a billboard and depending on the current and direction of the wind…and direction you are trying to go….the front end and back end do not always do the same thing.  Thank goodness we have been here long enough to make some good friends and thus in addition to a cheering section on the sidelines…and shouting out directions to us…we had a few brave souls that leaped like Tarzan onto the boat and helped us at different ends of this 68-foot vessel.. helping us by pushing this 25 ton vessel from near hits to sail boats tethered to poles…and helping us by quickly securing lines at different points down this LONG vessel.  I actually found going back to the computer and doing some work for Joyce soothing!

More later, mate!

Pictures pictures!  Surely somebody on shore took pictures?  How about movies?  I can do video too, you know.  This has turned out to be fascinating!  From a distance.

Photos would only make me re-live the experience. Let it slowly fade from memory.
Meanwhile got some beautiful photos of today's departure. Smooth as silk!
Michael at the wheel...or is that the helm... as I type.

We are currently 2-miles south of Cocoa Beach and the NASA Bridge per our charts is approximately 15-miles up the channel. Winds are steady and engines doing well! We are running at approx 10mph...therefore, the projected time for passing under the bridge is at 4:15 pm.

Any folks at KSC that might to wave us on...and capture any photos as proof to HQ that we ARE heading towards DC....come on down!

NEXT STOP:  We are expecting to 'suck up some go-go juice' and 'suck down some groceries' in Titusville.

If anybody gets pictures of this, please email them to me.  Everybody at HQ is convinced she's just stretched out on the beach in Cancun with a John Grisham in one hand and a margarita in the other.  We need PROOF!

Actually that's a lie.  I want pictures for this website.

Hey...I have just taken pictures of the VAB off the starboard side. Will that count as evidence?

Approx 6-miles from NASA Bridge. Steve Chance is to toot his car horn as he crosses, on the chance that I might be near enough to hear and acknowledge. We have a LOUD horn. In addition, from the flying bridge, we have another bell....called the BEER bell. Guess what that means and when that is used.

Hey, First Mate, if I ring the 'chimes' will you respond?!

You know our office retreat will be at Langley in late Sept.  Patty got out her calculator a few minutes ago, and as best we can tell you'll be almost there by then.  Maybe I can respond to the chimes when you pass by Virginia Beach?

Hah! We have passed under and I have picture of bridge and bridge sign -- NASA Causeway Bridge.

Good golly, if it takes me a month to get as far as Langley, I shall be ringing all sorts of bells and clanking my head against the ship's bell!

Full steam ahead!

Subject: CANRIGHT: No wi-fi access this evening

Just to let folks know that I am limited to blackberry and shall not be docking anywhere that might have wi-fi access. Thus, no email downloading this eveing and limited review of any documents forwarded to me during the day.

To Bill...no update to log...we DID get some good photos of VAB and NASA Causeway Bridge. Today has been 'NASA Day' from waterway.

Shall be anchoring in somewhere in about one hour or so...just ahead of desk. Crank up the generator, take a bird bath, and settle down in our floating nest for the evening.

I'm suffering from pic withdrawal.  But not to worry, I'll add a text-only page tonight featuring Shelley's fantastic description of unassisted docking at the pier.  I think the mental image is better than any pic could be anyway.

I'm not so sure -- it sounds like it could've been an America's Funniest Videos winner

No wi-fi this evening???? Then this must be a smoke signal from the waterway?
